but i will surelty give him credit for hi-lighting the complete incompetency of Congress - even his own party!!

and it's not that i agree with the Executive Actions that he's been taking - - for the most part, i disagree with his actions...

but it certainly shows just how useless Congress is! they can't even agree on how to stop him from using his Executive privileges to accomplish these tasks!!!

they are completely broken and useless.............

New Year Superstitions

People across the globe trust in certain superstitions related to New Year's Day. Underlying idea behind most of these superstitions is that events occurring on New Year's Day sets the pattern for the rest of the year. According to customs prevalent in their society, people perform auspicious acts to invite Lady Luck and ward off evil. Given here are some of the most astonishing and popular New Year Superstitions:

Wear New Clothes
People believe that one should wear new clothes on a New Year's Day. This would mean receiving more new garments during the year. Red clothing is preferred for New Year's Day since red is considered a happy colour and is sure to attract for the wearer a brighter future.

Avoid Crying
It is said that one should avoid breaking things or crying and wailing on the first day of the year, if you don't want to continue the pattern for the entire year.

Be Polite
People say that one should behave nicely on New Year and must refrain from using foul language. Ghost stories and conversations on death should also be avoided.

Lucky New Year Babies
Babies born on 1st January is said to be the luckiest of all throughout their lives.

Don't Let Money Leave the House
In several countries, people do not let money, jewelry, precious items or other invaluable things leave home on New Year Day. Hence it is said that one should not pay loans and bills or lend things to anybody. People go to the extent of not taking out garbage or even not dusting their carpets on this day to ensure that nothing goes out of home during the year. If you have to deliver presents on New Year morning, it is advised to leave them in the car since New Year Eve on December 31st. In case you must take something out from the home, let someone come with the present inside the home first.

Letting the Old Year Out
At midnight, all the doors of a house must be opened to let the old year escape unimpeded.

Stack Up Cupboards and Wallets
It is believed that cupboards stocked up with food and wallets and purses full of money bring prosperity in New Year. Similarly, empty pockets or empty cupboards on New Years Eve portend a year of poverty.

Do not Wash Dishes
In several societies washing dishes and doing laundry on New Year's day is said to lead to a death in the family during the year. Many people do not even wash hair on New Year day.

Do Token Amount of Work
It is said that one must do token amount of work on the New Year's Day. This is said to ensure advancement in career. But starting out a serious work project is unlucky on New Year Day.

Make Noise
People believe that Evil One and his attendants and servants hate din and loud noise. So, scare them away by being as loud in New Year celebrations as possible. Church bells are rung at midnight for the same reason.

Don't Keep Debts
Pay your bills and loans before New Year Eve, so you don't have any debt left for New Year.

Eat Black-Eyes Peas
In Southern part of the United States it is said that eating of black-eyed peas on New Year's Day will attract both general good luck and money in particular to the one doing the dining.

Kiss at Midnight
It is believed that kissing at midnight ensures that affections and ties will continue throughout the New Year. On similar lines, it is said, to not do this would be to set the stage for a year of coldness.

First Footing
One must never leave the home before someone comes in first. First footer in the house should be ushered in with a warm welcome and should not have flat feet, cross-eyes or eyebrows stretching out to meet in the middle. It would be even better if he came bearing certain small gifts.

The Direction of Wind
The direction of wind during sunrise on New Year morning prophesies about the coming year. Wind from south foretells fine weather and prosperous times ahead while wind from north foretells bad weather. Wind blowing from east foretells natural calamities and wind from west foretells plenty of milk and fish for all but death of a person of great national importance. No wind means joy and prosperity throughout the year.

Dance in the Open Air
To dance in the open air, especially round a tree, on New Year's Day ensures luck in love and prosperity and freedom from ill health during the coming twelve months.

Find Future Groom
On New Year's Day if, on rising, a girl should look out of her bedroom window and see a man passing by, she may reckon to be married before the year is finished.

Drain the Bottle
You could ensure yourself good fortune by draining the last dregs from a bottle of drink on New Years!

soooooooooo the world is all excited today!!! president obama announced the end of the iraqui war! nine years! and he's done it! ended the war and is bringing home all the troops - before the end of the year! frigging amazing!!!! isn't he a terrific president! wow - look what he's done! he's killed osama, and countless others in the leadership, brought about ghaddfi's death - - the man is simply awesome!

now - before my cynicism overwhelms you - - let me state that i am overjoyed that our troops are coming home! it's way past due! they've performed way over and above expectations for nine long years and are well deserving of all accolades for their service....wouldst that afghanistan, libya and central africa also be voided of all our forces before the end of the year!

now lets look at the political spin going on here....our dear leader - contrary to the media spin - has very little say in this one. the SOFA (status of forces agreement) with iraq expires on 31 dec 2011. and the iraquis don't want to extend, renew or have any part in any further involvement of our troops in their country.so the SOFA being what it is - requires that upon expiration all our forces be removed from that country!

obama couldn't change that without the agreement, endorsement of the iraquis - which ain't gonna happen....but it's fun watching the political pundits spinning this one into hero status for obama.......and the left's gonna lap it right up.....this may get him his second term....

so last night was the first of (ho hum) the presidential debates.

it was live on msnbc - which is probably why it had no audience - however, i'm sure the lousy host (brian williams was an embarrassment to the media family), terrible questions (i almost choked at the very first question, sheesh).

this was a media scam - nothing more.

i get a kick out of folks who are grading/rating the performers (that's what they were doing - performing)!

ms bachmann is a sad gop joke. can't imagine how/why she's taken seriously by anyone.

govs perry and romney are simply big ? remember, i don't like romney anyway, and perry (contrary to popular opinion) is not well liked here in texas.....

newt is simply not relevant - way out of his league - needs to call it in and find a rocker somwhere..

huntsman - much as i like him and his ideas - seems to be coming on as a centrist, and i really don't understand that.....

there was nothing impressive, nor anything new in this debate. i see it as simply a media show where the media got to show off and try to setup their favorite candidates (romney & perry)....

disappointing - to say the least......

NOTE: change one! - - it's been brought to my attention - by more than one person - that i neglected to say anything about ron paul's performance in this show. i need to correct that - -

paul is an enigma - i'm not sure how take him - the man has been around forever - has made the presidential bid in the past - found no takers and little in the way of support, be it public or corporate. nothing against the guy - i like things i've read about him and his ideas and his stands - - but what's different? why now? i'm still open on him - i'm listening mr. paul - - what do you have now that you didn't have last time? or before that? are you just another 'career politician' like perry, romney, gingrich and the others?

it's kinda funny actually - - here in our small town of San Angelo, in the midst of a large, red state - our local newspaper has distinct leanings to the left - sometimes even the far left.

being the tolerant conservatives that we all are, we put up with it - express ourselves in letters to the editor and the online chats....

told ya that to tell ya this -- the big guy at the paper did this editorial on ms. bachmann.....it's almost complimentary - but he does manage to lean it to the left too...

i mean - gee whiz, if the the left is liking this looney-tunes woman, who are we to complain?! let's just vote her in!

i posted a few days ago about ms. bachmann - indicating i didn't like her and didn't understand why she was such a popular presidential hopeful. i was asked in the comments to expound on why i don't like her as a candidate.

((by the way)) i still don't understand that attraction she seems to be generating.

i've read commentary by LZ Granderson before - sometimes i understand and like what he says, sometimes not so much - - for me that's not a problem - - i'd hate to be in agreement with everything everyone wrote!

Casey Anthony found not guilty of murder of daughter

after over three years of the media pounding into our heads and hearts that casey anthony murdered poor little caylee, the american public is today in shambles after a jury found casey not guilty!!!

there's a lawyer show on tv that for the past three years has done nothing but pump out garbage about how guilty casey is.....(right nancy?)

there have already this afternoon been some of the most grievous threats you can imagine against casey and her parents! rogue vengeance is being called for - one lady told me on FB that she could put a bullet between casey's eyes!!

my opinion of her guilt or innocence is not important (frankly, i don't know, i wasn't there and i find the media evidence shakey - but i do think she's guilty of something involving that poor little girl).

unfortunately, in this particular case - our justice system worked as advertised. there simply wasn't any, or enough evidence to convince a jury to find her guilty.

the lawyers didn't do their jobs. the investigators didn't do their jobs. but the system worked.

the media is devastated - they've wasted over three years pounding the guilt of this person into the public (hell, into the world!) - - and now they've been shot down.

it's a media failure! how can we possibly believe anything the media says now?
nancy, tell me it's not true! your entire tv career has been built upon this persons guilt!

what a frenzy! calls for public lynching! actually read a piece where a group is talking of storming the jail and taking care of justice themselves - in caylee's name (of course)........ disgusting

you know the family will have a book(s) out soon - a 'made for tv movie' will be out any day now - - and the sales will go through the roof! guaranteed - the public will become just as guilty as the family and will support them with viewship and readership of books, movies and tv extravaganzas....

i think i've found a candidate in whom i'm interested! i like his background, i like things he has accomplished thus far and i like what i'm reading about him as i check him out.

jon huntsman jr. - - current ambassador to china has tossed his hat into the ring for the 2012 presidential bid. based on what i've read thus far - i like the guy.

the media appears to be pushing huntsman as a "moderate" republican - however someone with whom even the staunchest of tea partiers can get along with.

apparently (according to the media articles) the fact the huntsman has been serving in the obama administration is something of a negative. i'm not sure i would agree with that - after all the man and his family have been in china for the past two years!! and before that he was governor of utah - and a good one at that!

i think i'll keep my eye on mr huntsman - - possibly a gop'er worth supporting....

they showed a graphic with big RED X's through names like Daniels, Trump, Huckabee, Thune......

remaining is Gringrich, Cain, Romney, Paul and Pawlenty...

reading thru the 1600 comments, i was struck by the number of people who seem to think the ticket will be Gingrich and Cain!!! amazing - - a 'has been' and a 'nobody'..........sheesh...

if this is the best the gop can muster up, then you can bet your last dollar that obama gonna get re-elected....

and i don't blame guys like daniels and huckabee and thune for pulling out - - the complete and total disrepect that the media will show for any candidate is going to be something to witness. you have to be somewhat nuts to want to run against the obama machine - - cuz all stops will be pulled - hell if you farted somewhere and it was heard (or smelt!) the media gonna eat you alive....

prediction - this is going to be one of the nastiest campaign cycles in our history. no doubt.

been a while since i posted.....no excuse....

my comments are included here, even though i put them on the site also...

spent all morning trying to figure the best response here. it's obvious that my attempt to portray one of the major differences between reps and dems was not taken as such. for the record, i should state that i did used to be a republican - in fact, i'm still registered as such. however events of the past ten years have given me cause to re-evaluate that position. there's no way i've become a democrat - we're lightyears apart; but there's also no way that i can consider myself any kind of republican in today's world. i find myself disagreeing with both parties. maybe i should join my buddy indep_in_tx or maybe i should be one of those libraryterarians....

anyway, one of the issues i still find myself in agreement with most republicans is my view of economics. i firmly believe in capitalism - "an economic system in which the means of production and distribution are privately or corporately owned and development is proportionate to the accumulation and reinvestment of profits gained in a free market."

the end of that definition is important. "...development is proportionate to the accumulation and reinvestment of profits..." that simple phrase is one of the major dividing points in our two party system.

in my simple mind, our economic success or failure lies in the ability of those corporations and wealthy business owners to manage their businesses and finances in order to expand and create new jobs and new products to keep the cycle going. i don't believe they should be restricted, charged, taxed or otherwise interupted from doing just that. i acknowedge the fact that there are wealthy - even super-wealthy - people in our world and i harbor them no ill feelings or rage just because of that fact. actually, i hope they make even more money and encourage them to invest it into r&d to spawn new businesses and create jobs for everyone. i love seeing new products on the market and to hear about exciting investments into future productions! it means jobs, new constructions - more people able to enjoy the benefits of our economic growth by participating in it! are the republicans trying to help that cause? sure - but even they have created more problems in trying to ease the burden on corporations and the wealthy. in theory they always portray tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy - it goes to the basic tenet of capitalism.

on the other hand, there are the liberals, whose economic views consider corporations and people of wealth to be the cause of all our problems and would rather see all those monies go to the masses via government-managed programs of support so that everyone can share in their wealth. and we'll create unions, whose job it is to represent the common laborer and get them their fair share of those nasty profit-making rich folks. in order to help this view along, it's necessary to purvey the thought that those corporations and wealthy people are bad - if it wasn't for them, we wouldn't be in the predicaments we're in. we need to get more and more of their money so that all of us can have what they have - cars, property, belongings, food and fancy homes. we don't need to work for it - it's just so unfair that they can make all that money and everyone else can't! we need to close all the loopholes (part of obama's plan referenced in the latimes article) and tighten taxation so that these bad corporations and rich so-and-so's pay their (more than) fair share! so the government steps in to manage these "needs of the people" and tax corporations and the wealthy so that their money can be dispensed to those who really should have it anyway. the liberal thought is that it's ok that there are corporations and weathy people as long as they pay larger amounts than anyone else so that everyone else can feel wealthy too. after all, they're making lots and lots of money and getting away with paying only a 35% tax rate! to me it's a system of negative class envy.

and just to comment further on the latimes article that was cited, they even went out and hired two of the largest liberal economic "think tanks" in the country to evaluate the republican plan - gee, wonder what their thoughts are gonna be; why not have two of the largest conservative economic "think tanks" evaluate the plans? hmmmm, different results - really - skews your argument - really? hmmmmmm political differences? for sure......

however, in my economic view, what happens is that by taking away that 35%, we drastically limit any kind of economic growth - business stimulation or job creation. and we do it from above and below - the corporations and wealthy can't reinvest and create growth because we've limited their financial ability to do so; and we've also created a false sense of economic well-being among people who now have disposable monies and the ability to purchase items at a rate that production can't keep up with because we've taken away the corporation's ability to expand and create.

so we have really high unemployment rates, yet folks with disposable incomes, lousy business growth rates, terrible economy, horribly low interest rates and generally bad times all around. over time - we've also seen businesses move outside our own country (outsourcing) - simply because they cannot afford (literally) to expand and create new jobs in our own country. liberal policies have pretty much forced this to happen over time - corporations simply can't afford to do business in this country. and it's not only liberal policies - republican policies trying to overcome those liberal policies have added to the confusion and downfall of the pure capitalistic system.

by and large it's part of the reason i support a complete erasure of the tax regulations/laws as they stand today. just completely toss'em - effective xxxxxx date there are no longer any tax laws period. no corporate taxes, no business taxes, no personal taxes - - one large shred program to get rid of it - all of it - loopholes included. i support a flat tax - for everyone - corporate, business, private, personal. you make money, you pay the government 20% - period. no exemptions, no loops, no holes, no offshore accounts, no exceptions.

so in this large post, i've opened up all kinds of issues both politically and micro/macro economically speaking. but i think it's the foundation of our economic system and also the root of the current dilemma we find ourselves in economically.

anyone have any idea what it's like to look for 20 or so people with a military training background in our small town? oh - yeah - and add to that - these 20 or so people have to have a security clearance! talk about your mission impossible.....

should be exciting though - we're about doubling our company presence here. we're definitely happy about that part! and happy in our own small way to be able to help someone, somewhere get back to work! even if they do have to have a clearance....

since we have a pool in the backyard we have to have fencing - we prefer privacy style fencing. the wood fence that is (and has been) there is splitting, wobbly and the boards are warping and looking downright shakey!

so we're having some fencing folks drop by and give us some estimates on redoing the fencing and gates....

absolutely have no idea of what $$ to expect around here - that's why i've asked 3 or four local fencing companies for estimates..we'll see how this goes....

i'll post some pics as we get into this project....

quick weather update - i think we're past the deep freeze of the last two days. actually made it to 51 today and they say close to 60 tomorrow and for the weekend...course the nights are still 20s & 30s - - but at least the days aren't staying in the 20s & 30s.....

now we just need to work on our drought and get some precipitation in here!

friend of mine put this quote on facebook today. my comment was that it's a stupid statement - lots of things are without consequences - what's the good sheriff's point?

my friend opined that words have consequences - and we should be held responsible for our words. and that enough people don't realize that their words have consequences....

my comment is that what my friend is implying is that i have the right to voice my opinion but if something was to happen that "HE" attributes to my words, then i should be help responsible and punished for expressing my opinion....

in other words, i'm entitled to voice my opinion as long as he agrees or approves.

i totally agree with the concept that words have consequences and people should definitely be aware of what they say. but at what point and whom decides consequences?

if my blog were read by hundreds of thousands of people - and i posted a list of people i didn't like and why i didn't like those people. and something happened to one of those people.

and let's say that the person who caused something to happen to that person was one of the hundreds of thousands who passed by my blog - am i suddenly at fault for that incident?

i just have a hard time with that line of thought. so now before i offer an opinion about anything or anyone, i have to take into consideration anyone who might happen to read or hear that opinion and possibly take some type of action based on that opinion of mine?

does this make sense? am i missing something about freedom of speech? are the thought police moving in?

God be with those involved in the shooting in Arizona over the weekend and their families.

seen some of the world's stupidest posts since that shooting. politicizing such a tragedy serves no purpose. our progressives should be embarrassed and ashamed - and the conservatives who baited them on should be even more ashamed....disgusting display of "national unity".....

on a different note - -

we actually had .02 inches of rain over the weekend!! not exactly sure what that might mean - but the airport somehow registered .02 inches of moisture! we're all betting that an armadillo pissed in the cup; but who knows!

and now, we're supposed to have our two days of freeze! the high on tuesday is supposed to be 34.....the low tonite and tomorrow night is supposed to be 20 - windchill in the low teens....

gonna be a cold couple of days for us! but then thursday supposed to be back in the high 50's and friday to the 60's.....still no rain.....

not a bad day..

the temps around here in the winter hang around the 50's (maybe low 60's) during the day and then it gets cold at night - 20's/30's....

the worst problem is the dryness! it's been month's since we've had any appreciable rain amounts - - and we don't get humidity - it hangs around 20%, may 25% on a good day....

so things are really REALLY dry around here. the outdoor burn ban has been in effect since october!! and the longer it stays so dry, the more dangerous a fire becomes!

the weather folks have been making a bit of noise about some moisture coming into the area next week - - - but it's not promising. most likely just going to be dry through the end of feb and into march when spring begins to move in...

tonight's the cotton bowl! LSU and texas a&m! i'll be watching....

i hope everyone had a good 2010!

it has surely been a year of ups and downs.....depending on your position in life and your political outlook there are lots of possibilities!

if you're a liberal - you aren't anymore! you're now a progressive - meant to show that your a positive, go forward force....

if you're a conservative - you're a member of the "Party of NO" - meant to show that your a negative, go backward force....

if you're an independent - you pretty much don't have a choice...but you can claim, "it's not my fault!"

if you're a dis-enfranchised member of any of the above, you're most likely a "tea partier" - nobody's really sure what that is yet because every branch organization of the tea party represents something different, with different aims and goals...

i think i'm going to be non-political in this new year!

for me personally, it's been a pretty good year. we had the birth of our third grandchild - the first to our younger daughter and hubby.

i got a pretty cool promotion at work - i was given the opportunity to run with a piece of a contract and now have a team of thirteen folks working for me! they are a bunch of really talented people who do great work! i'm even hoping to expand the group over the next year!

both the wife and i enjoy pretty good health - could probably stand to shed a few pounds here and there - but we'll work on that and have fun with it!

our truck ('04 F150) is paid off!!! just turned 130,000 miles on her....love it!

both of our daughters and their hubbies and kiddies are enjoying good health! even though our youngest girl was laid off a few months back, they're surviving pretty well so far....our eldest daughter has decided to go back to teaching in 2011 since both kids will be in school next year. we're hoping both girls find good positions as the year progresses.

so with God's blessings being plentiful - we'll look forward to the coming year and give lots of thanks for the year passed.

here's hoping the new year is good to us all........

personally, since the guy is not an American citizen - we can't try him for treason.....

BUT since they've released classified information from a multitude of countries - besides our own, I think he and his entire company should be tried before an international tribune for "crimes against the world"!!!

As the Chalk Leader for my flight home from Afghanistan, I witnessed the following:

When we were on our way back from Afghanistan, we flew out of Baghram Air Field. We went through customs at BAF, full body scanners (no groping), had all of our bags searched, the whole nine yards. Our first stop was Shannon, Ireland to refuel. After that, we had to stop at Indianapolis, Indiana to drop off about 100 folks from the Indiana National Guard. That's where the stupid started.

First, everyone was forced to get off the plane-even though the plane wasn't refueling again. All 330 people got off that plane, rather than let the 100 people from the ING get off. We were filed from the plane to a holding area. No vending machines, no means of escape. Only a male/female latrine.

It's probably important to mention that we were ALL carrying weapons. Everyone was carrying an M4 Carbine (rifle) and some, like me, were also carrying an M9 pistol. Oh, and our gunners had M-240B machine guns. Of course, the weapons weren't loaded. And we had been cleared of all ammo well before we even got to customs at Baghram, then AGAIN at customs.

The TSA personnel at the airport seriously considered making us unload all of the baggage from the SECURE cargo hold to have it reinspected. Keep in mind, this cargo had been unpacked, inspected piece by piece by U.S. Customs officials, resealed and had bomb-sniffing dogs give it a one-hour run through. After two hours of sitting in this holding area, the TSA decided not to reinspect our Cargo-just to inspect us again: Soldiers on the way home from war, who had already been inspected, reinspected and kept in a SECURE holding area for 2 hours. Ok, whatever. So we lined up to go through security AGAIN.

This is probably another good time to remind you all that all of us were carrying actual assault rifles, and some of us were also carrying pistols.

So we're in line, going through one at a time. One of our Soldiers had his Gerber multi-tool. TSA confiscated it. Kind of ridiculous, but it gets better. A few minutes later, a guy empties his pockets and has a pair of nail clippers. Nail clippers. TSA informs the Soldier that they're going to confiscate his nail clippers. The conversation went something like this:

TSA Guy: You can't take those on the plane.

Soldier: What? I've had them since we left country.

TSA Guy: You're not suppose to have them.

Soldier: Why?

TSA Guy: They can be used as a weapon.

Soldier: [touches butt stock of the rifle] But this actually is a weapon. And I'm allowed to take it on.

TSA Guy: Yeah but you can't use it to take over the plane. You don't have bullets.

Soldier: And I can take over the plane with nail clippers?

TSA Guy: [awkward silence]

Me: Dude, just give him your damn nail clippers so we can get the f**k out of here. I'll buy you a new set.

Soldier: [hands nail clippers to TSA guy, makes it through security]

To top it off, the tsa demanded we all be swabbed for "explosive residue" detection. Everyone failed, [go figure, we just came home from a war zone], because we tested positive for "Gun Powder Residue". Who the F**K is hiring these people?

This might be a good time to remind everyone that approximately 233 people re-boarded that plane with assault rifles, pistols, and machine guns-but nothing that could have been used as a weapon.

Can someone please tell me What the F**K happened to OUR country while we were gone?

Guess we all better come home and take D. C , back for our freedom and that of our families to save our country, this president is a real bastard along with the TSA bastards!! Hey, we know how to xxxxx.

i've been around - - but haven't posted much lately.

i'm quite happy about the primaries that have been held up to this point. BUT (you knew there would be a but...)

i've been searching and searching - trying to come up with something good to say about ms o'donnell and her out of nowhere victory in delaware....

now - don't get me wrong - - everyone knows i'm anti-incumbent and fervently support term limits and greatly dislike the "career politicans" in this country.

and there's not much doubt that mike castle was one of those - - 9 (NINE) term representative!!! sheesh, if that's not a career.......so no complaint from me about his being unseated...

but ms o'donnell .........what a question mark - - - what a strange bird......her ideas, theories and political aspirations don't add up to anything - -she has zero zilch political leanings - - she has no standing as a conservative of any type, or a moderate, or even a mccain "liberal" .......i'm just not sure how she would be classified. no conservative of any type i'm familiar with....

i find it interesting to observe the reactions of the gop and dem party folks.....they're pretty much stumped....

it's one of those things about the tea partiers - - most of them appear to be so different from each other. i just can't get a good read on them politically. seems to be a large group of dems who are unsatisified with their own party at the moment (gee, wonder why.....oba....hmmmmmm) combined with a bunch of unhappy reps - most of whom claim to be conservatives along with a bunch of RINOs.....

quite a grouping.....not sure exactly what to make of it....

but i'm still anti-incumbent and very very pro term limits.......and very very very against the policies of the current administration - - i see no good coming from anything that has been put in place in the past two years - in fact, i see more harm than recovery......((if anyone would care to point out ANYTHING good done by this administration, i'd love to hear about it!))

sometimes i get confused - - - the democrats have pretty much literally been in control since january of 2007. that's when they took control of congress. even tho Bush was still the president - the gop lost control of congress in 2007......

things have not been the same in this country since then!

and then in 2008, a democrat was actually voted in as president! so - since january of 2009 the democrats have had sole control of this country - - and yet

here in sept of 2010 the president is still blaming everything on the gop!!? dedicated an entire speech today in cleveland, ohio to do nothing but place blame on the "party of no" as he refers to those of us who hold the conservative lean.....

someone needs to remind him - - that this PARTY OF NO is the minority in the government!!! we pretty much couldn't pass a kidney stone without the democrats!!

his rhetoric about boehner was uncalled for - - we (gop) have no control over congress or the presidency! haven't had since 2007!

democrats just can't seem to figure it out - - over 3 1/2 years now, they have had control of the government!

yet everything that has happened over that time is the fault of the minority party!!! how can that possibly be?!

folks - ya gotta watch for these upcoming elections! the call to VOTE 'EM OUT remains valid and vocal among a lotta voters. i don't care what party they care - if they've been in congress more than TWO TERMS, they shouldn't be there any longer....!!!!

So earlier today I said to my buddy steve that I thought glen beck was an idiot.

Let me backtrack on that one - - I don’t think glen beck is an idiot - - in fact, quite the opposite - - I think he is quite intelligent – in the same realm with Limbaugh, savage, coulter, o’reilly and the rest of them. They are extremely intelligent folks who are very very good at what they do and how they do it.

My buddy says that to argue with beck's factoids is like trying to say the sun doesn’t rise in the east and set in the west - meaning you can't argue with hardcore facts - i can't even argue with that really.....

I’ve read through the transcripts of his most recent show (31Aug); I’ve watched several of his previous shows; I’ve even read one of his books (arguing with idiots); still have it somewhere. I certainly don’t claim to be a “beck expert”; nor did I agree with everything I read – although I did agree with a majority of what I read….

My disagreement with my friend steve is that beck (along with Limbaugh, savage, coulter, et all) are entertainers. They are spin doctors – they know what to say and how to say it to get certain reactions from people. The objective is to make the information plausible and (mostly) factual and then spin it around the divisiveness of liberal versus conservative; honorable vs unhonorable; and, ultimately turn it into a us vs them.

why can't i believe most of the things that beck proselytizes without being one of his "followers"? frankly, i don't need beck to tell me about honor, respect for my country or my fellowman. but suddenly, i'm somehow wrong because i don't credit beck for my strong conservative leanings, my feelings of respect for my fellowman and my country - - i need beck for that?

Now that’s not say I don’t think beck believes whole heartedly everything he says – i'm pretty sure he does. i've seen him choke up during a show on patriotism. So has rush; so does savage and all of them. what makes him different? what has he "preached" that the others haven't?

So what’s the ultimate big finish? Sure ok so now we’re all honorable folks and believe in what our forefathers established and that God was central in that effort and should certainly be more in tune in today’s world. Yep – no doubt about it. and the "other guys" - - well obviously they're all totally wrong - they're have no honor, no respect for our founding fathers and no sense of history - - only beck's way is the absolute way. you're either IN or OUT. ((personally, i'll choose OUT and be perfectly happy about it))

so we have this big, honorable gathering in DC - - no signs, no violence, great speakers, prayers and everything. Good thing! Absolutely nothing wrong with it. Wish I cudda been there….i'm mean just think - out of 300 odd million people in this country - the half a million that attended this past week-ends rally are THE honorable folks in the country! (sarcasm intended)

So now what? He’s spent the last three days highlighting how dishonorable and bad the folks on the left are - - as compared to the crowd from the gathering - they're all righteous and right…..how the media missed the entire point of the gathering – because in their liberalness all they see is hatred and bigotry.

Still……so now what? Nothing against the gathering, nothing against what was said at the gathering - - I can’t even argue facts with it because well…..i don’t disagree….

But still doesn’t answer my question - - other than highlighting and creating great(er) chasms (even more so than what currently exists) between those who agree/believe as beck does and those who don't; what is about to change? Who’s gonna change it? and what's his role gonna be? spirtual guidance?

((it will be the same as limbaugh, coulter and the rest of 'em - all the way to the bank))

so i still need to know - What's next? What's the point? purpose? other than creating more divisiveness between people who already are dangerously divided..........

airlines just don't get it...

American Airlines rolls out fee for coach seats

if it wasn't so sad it could almost be funny! the airline companies just don't get it. sagging sales, no body wants to fly anymore - - so they create these silly little fees to try and entice folks back into the air.

they just don't seem to understand that between the undeniably rude and non-customer oriented customer service, horrible hassle, and ridiculous treatment that the american public is subjected to at airports, people just don't fly anymore. and if we do have to fly, we're going to use airlines who understand and treat folks somewhat better - - Southwest, Jet Blue. (i don't mean to insinuate that Southwest and Jet Blue are by any means "perfect" airlines - but they are one heckuva lot better than the others in customer service and passenger treatment.)

these old stick-in-the-mud carriers like American (by far the worst), Delta (a real close second to the worst) are going to run themselves right out of the business...

frankly, no big deal - let 'em sink - - they deserve it. their management deserves their fate. i suspect they would find very very little sympathy from the American public.

Start with a cage containing five monkeys. Inside the cage, hang a banana on a string and place a set of stairs under it. Before long, a monkey will go to the stairs and start to climb towards the banana.
As soon as he touches the stairs, spray all the other monkeys with cold water. After a while another monkey makes the attempt with same result, all the other monkeys are sprayed with cold water. Pretty soon when

Now, put the cold water away. Remove one monkey from the cage and replace it with a new one. The new monkey sees the banana and wants to climb the stairs.
To his shock, all of the other monkeys attack him. After another attempt and attack, he knows that if he tries to climb the stairs he will be assaulted.
Next, remove another of the original five monkeys and replace it with a new one.
The newcomer goes to the stairs and is attacked. The previous newcomer takes part in the punishment with enthusiasm.
Likewise, replace a third original monkey with a new one, then a fourth, then the fifth. Every time the newest monkey takes to the stairs he is attacked.
Most of the monkeys that are beating him up have no idea why they were not permitted to climb the stairs or why they are participating in the beating of the newest monkey. After replacing all of the original monkeys, none of the remaining monkeys have ever been sprayed with cold water. Nevertheless, no monkey ever again approaches the stairs to try for the banana.
Why not?
Because as far as they know, that is the way it has always been done around here.

And that, my fellow monkeys, is how Congress operates...

U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton today ruled against the will of more than 70% of the American people by issuing an injunction against four of the primary statements in SB 1072 (the Arizona immigration law). you may say that a judge isn't bound by popular feelings - - i agree - - but neither should a judge be ruled by political persuasions and govt thug tactics.....

And what's worse than the fact she totally ignored legal precedences and the rights of a State under the Constitution, she did it entirely for political purposes!!!

Check out this story. This National Review article needs to be carefully read word for word by everyone so you can understand this ruling by Obama's judge.

we have to put fresh faces into congress - - and then demand they establish term limits and completely overhaul how they do business.

think about it - - think about the last few years - - think about who destroyed our economy (hint - it wasn't me and you), think about who's backed the huge, constantly growing debt we're accumulating with no end in sight (hint - it wasn't me and you), think about who passed this health bill nonsense that's about to tax us all to death (again, it wasn't me and you).....and lastly, think about who is destroying jobs left and right with absolutely no hope of creating new jobs - in fact the hope is to destroy more jobs!!! (it's completely impossible to tax our way into a better economy or more jobs)

don't forget the actions of your congressperson! VOTE 'EM OUT! all of 'em......

i suppose since i complained so loudly about the time it took to plug that silly hole - - i should acknowledge the fact that they have plugged the hole and greatly reduced (to almost nothing) the amount of oil escaping into the gulf. hurray.....

of course, the guvmint is involved at this point, so we'll really never ever know if it's a good fix that will last a while or just a temporary thing that will start leaking....cuz now that the guvmint is involved nothing will ever be the same down there.....nor will we ever hear anything about what's happening with the cleanup....the guvmint won't allow it....((we all know they control the media))

ahhhhhhhhh yeah i'm a cynic - - so shoot me- oh wait - guvmint says you can't do that.....(that's a joke son he he he)....

my youngest daughter and the new granddaughter flew up from florida to dallas yesterday so sue and i are headed up that way for a long weekend with the all the kids and grandkids together! and to boot our other grand daughter (laurie beth) just turned 4!! so i will be a fun week-end with all the kiddies and the girls! we're really looking forward to getting up there...

there are just so many news items of interest - - i could probably post things hourly if i had the time and inclination to do so!

i find the actions of the naacp at their convention in kansas city to be reprehensible! this is an organization of racists in support of racists who is calling other groups racists! i'm afraid this group has long outlived it's usefullness and purpose. the american people deserve better than this organization......

bp has a new cap in place in the gulf! testing has begun to see if it's as secure as they hope it will be. i'm still amazed at the lack of scientific and engineering knowledge in the world today that it takes this long to cap that thing....

i found lebron james actions to be strange - - the simple fact that he changed teams isn't unusual - players do it all the time. what made his actions so unusual was the pomp & circumstance that he insisted upon. i found all that rather uncalled for.......i also found the reaction from the cavs owner childish and uncalled for.

although i'm not a big yankees fan - i was still saddened to hear about george steinbrenner's passing this morning. RIP sir......

i was really bothered when i read this afternoon that newt gingrich is considering a gop presidential run in 2012. there is no more sure of a way to ensure the defeat of the gop than for him to decide to put himself back in the political limelight. his statemanship is appreciated - his conservative values are appreciated - but his candidacy for office would be disastrous for the gop in 2012.

why, and from whom is the pressure being placed on major league baseball to change the location of next year's all-star game away from phoenix, arizona!? please please MLB - - do not cave to such nonsense. i'd love to know where this supposed pressure is coming from - - any poll i look up shows 65-75% of the country in support of arizona. sheesh, i support arizona and don't even live there! i'd love to see texas and other border states get on the wagon and pass similar legislation.

sorry for the lack of posts! had company in the house since last friday! been kinda busy - but we loved every minute of it!

anyway couple of things in the news just simply amaze me....

first, the lebron james thing - - who really cares? not me.

also - see my post below - - why is the world is that hole not plugged yet?! are we as a world people totally void of any scientific or engineering genius? where's the submersibles? hell, guys visited the titanic in near hundred miles of depth and we can find a submesible to go 5 miles? why is stopping this leak so friggin hard? i just don't get it......

another thing - why in the world did the fbi, cia or whomever spend 10 - yes, TEN years - tracking this group of russian - i hate to use the word "spies" - but that's what the media has deemed them - so we've tracked these people for TEN years and now - just like that - we're gonna let 'em go.....what's wrong with this picture? i just don't get it.....

one last thing - the Arizona immigration law and the Eric Holder/Barrack Obama lawsuit against the state. are they completely out of their minds? i'm not a big fan of polls, but most all pollsters agree that some 65-75% of the American people support the Arizona law! and another 55-65% of Americans agree that the federal government doesn't enforce existing immigration laws! so if the feds aren't going to enforce the law - why shouldn't the states be able to? this battle isn't so much about immigration rights as about STATES rights and the domain of the federal government. this thing boils down to further and further "big brother" intrusion into governmental areas where it has no business being! rather than fix immigration policies and laws these goofballs (sorry, that's what this regime is) are wasting tax dollars against something that is good!!! i just don't get it......

and don't forget! as we get closer and closer to elections - - VOTE 'EM OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! all of them. congress is completely useless with the members in existence now. we need a complete, total fresh batch - who go there knowing that we won't put up with career politicians and politics-as-usual any longer!!! if you have elections coming up - - please VOTE 'EM OUT!

you know what irritates me? (of course, you know i'm going to tell ya anyway...)

i reallly truly hate it when a piece of software updates itself - for example, firefox today decided to tell me it had downloaded an update and it would install next time i closed the browser.

so being the conscientious guy i am, i immediately stopped what i was doing and closed firefox so it would go ahead and run its update.

wasn't bad - but then firefox informed me i should go immediately and update my adobe flash player. no problem, they even provided the link to adobe...

so i went and updated the flash player. it was also relatively simple.

imagine my surprise when i see that one of these updates unknown to me installed some worthless McAfee virus scanning tool on my computer - even included a desktop icon!

it really irks me that i can't hardly go anywhere and download a piece of software without some additional software or toolbar dragging along! can't tell you how many times i've deleted the yahoo toolbar or the google toolbar or the gametimecentral toolbar!!!

whenever i install software i always click the "custom install" button - mostly because there's always some tag-along software that will be installed if i don't look and uncheck the box....

and i know there are those out there that actually like McAfee - - i'm sorry, i'm not on that bandwagon. i think McAfee is THE worst virus protection software available. i wouldn't have it on one of my computers.

but that's neither here nor there - my rant is about unwanted software being installed. maybe another time i'll talk about virus tools......

so be very carefull when you download and install software on to your computer - - watch for unwanted toolbars and now for unwanted virus scanning tools.......

there's a lot of things to talk about with bp's oil disaster! unfortunately, in my humble opinion folks are concentrating on the wrong issue!

sure - there's lots of politics to go around - somebody to blame, out of work fishermen to support, tourism $$ going down the drain.. there's plenty to talk about and figure out funding and all the other issues that go along...

BUT!

what about the leaking hole!!?????? the damn thing is still leaking oil!!! and no one - - absolutely NO ONE has any idea of how to stop it!!!

i find that totally unbelievable.....

bp has no clue and even the other oil companies with rigs out there offshore have admitted that they have absolutely no idea how to go about stopping the flow of oil!!!!

that's simply incredulous!!!

we need to put out a call for the entire world's scientific and engineering community and figure out how to stop that friggin leak!!! money be damned - time is of the utmost importance here.....

are we actually admitting that we're stumped?? at the limits of our technical knowledge??? this is a complete, utter failure of the scientific and engineering world!!! have you thought about it in that way??? our inability to plug that hole is an admittance of complete scientific and engineering FAILURE!!

there should be nothing of importance other than plugging that hole - and doing it NOW - and gather whatever, whomever it takes to get it plugged and stopped!!!

where are all the scientists and engineers? why are we so worried about the political end of this nonsense? we need to stop that leak!

couple of odd and end things tonight....

there's a movement happening out there to boycott BP products. we don't have any BP stations here in this part of texas, so that's not a difficult boycott! while i sympathize and do understand those who are suggesting the boycott, i'm not sure that it will accomplish anything! i mean, there's nothing wrong with gas they refine and sell; they really have no business practices that have been questionable.

they've had a disaster on an off-shore drilling platform and have no "plan b" on how to react to such a disaster. i find that fact extremely bothersome - that a company who's business revolves around discovering and tapping into energy sources under the seas and in other remote locations would do so without any kind of disaster recovery plan!!

and i find it even more disgusting that our government's energy commission issues these drilling permits to companies (not only BP) who have no disaster recovery plans!

i think we can pretty much determine from the lack of reaction and help from the other companies who have drilling platforms offshore that they also have no disaster recovery plans in place and are just watching hoping to learn what to do (or not do) if such a disaster were to happen to them!!

it's amazing that all the drilling engineers and scientists in this country can't come up with a way to stop that well!

it's amazing that the initial reaction of our president and government was to immediately blame the previous administration for easing regulations......

the lack of coordination between the states (LA, MI, AL and FL)and the feds is awesome to behold. it's like neither has any idea what the other is doing. and the residents along the coast are totally out in the cold and getting fed nothing from either the feds or the states....

and all the media wants to know is whom to point fingers at? who's going to be held responsible? who'll go to trial!?

meanwhile, the birds are dying, the fish are dying and people are losing their way of life.

where is our scientific and engineering community? why is it hands off?

not one of my most favorite topics to post about. for a variety of reasons -

one, i don't claim to have much knowledge about the happenings over there - other than what i read about or hear on the news.

two, those folks been fighting each other (rightly or wrongly - no matter) for longer than my own country has been in existence - in fact, a few thousand years longer.

it has never stopped - it shows no signs of stopping now - and i seriously doubt that my lifetime will see any kind of peace in that area of the world.

and i seriously question those who think they can bring peace to that area. from the miniscule amount of knowledge i've managed to gather during my lifetime, the people over the don't want peace, and most certainly don't want a 'brokered' peace (by anyone!)

having said all that - - i do honestly question the fact that within 24 hours of the most recent skirmish in that area, the 'un' security council has decried the actions and is making all kinds of noises....

yet, the 'un' security council has yet to issue any kind of statement about the actions of north korea against south korea! nothing......nor, have they commented at all about the red-shirt activity in thailand...

'un'fortunately, i find the 'un' to be a totally useless organization - comprised mostly of crooks. why it is allowed to exist in this country continues to amaze me.

The Bennett lesson: All incumbents BEWARE!

great story! terrific warning! longtime Utah republican senator Robert Bennett - respected and likable in DC - was set aside by voters this weekend largely due to his support of the bailouts!

and i quote,

"If anti-establishment and tea party fervor continue to flatten incumbents this midterm election cycle, the record will show that the 76-year-old Bennett was the first true victim."

we can only hope that the trend continues! i know i'm go on over a member of [supposedly] my own party - but that's not the point. if the media wants to call it "anti-establishment" i suppose that's a fine term for it - but the point is that these career politicians who sold the country down the river with the bailouts, and acquiesced to that disaster of a health bill and have turned congress into a charade -----don't deserve re-election! one of my favorite sites to read about the election woes of those currently in office in congress is at POLITICO.

i have no problem identifying myself as a republican - - and a rather conservative republican at that. but even as a lifelong republican, i still am in favor of voting against incumbents!!

it's time to 'clean house' in congress. career politicians are not good for the country. at no time did our forefathers envision such a thing as a 'career politician' who spends their entire life as a senator or representative. it is not conducive to the best interests of the people.

i also fully support term limits - two terms - end of story. you're done on a national level in congress after two terms. we need to get term limits put into place real quick...

incumbent democrats and republicans are struggling to find support in their upcoming elections. why they're so surprised is amazing, but does go to show how far out of touch with the real people in this country they are!

if your congressperson is up for re-election this time around, i'm seriously asking you to consider whether or not they actually deserve to be returned to that position! are they making a career of it? when they do come to their home area, do they meet with people? are they accessible to everyone?

i guess i'm overdue to post on this particular subject - - and with all the hoopla about the new arizona law that the wonderful ms jan brewer signed the other day i just have to comment.

go arizona! well done! ms brewer has my entire support to run for president!! she obviously has more common sense than anyone currently in dc...

i just don't understand what's so hard on the immigration question - - a person is either in this country by legal means - meaning that person is in possession of a green card, laborer card, or H status card (sponsored by the employer) or is in the process of acquiring such documentation (which is also provable with the proper paperwork) OR failing all that - that person is here illegally and is breaking the law.

now it doesn't matter that they're a good person, not a criminal, just a hard-working laborer or whatever - - illegal means simply that illegal - against the law, not in compliance with existing laws.

that means they shouldn't be here. should be in the country from which they came.

this isn't rocket science people - - if you're not here illegally, you have nothing to worry about. if you're not in possession of the proper papers or credentials then you should be worried - turned in and sent back to wherever you came from.

i think every border state (north & south) should have a law similar to that which arizona just put into effect. we need to do a better job of controlling our borders.

so there - that's my opinion on immigration.

got this in an email today - - thought it holds a smattering of truth......

Old Butch

John was in the fertilized egg business.

He had several hundred young layers (hens), called ‘pullets,’ and ten roosters to fertilize the eggs.

He kept records, and any rooster not performing went into the soup pot and was replaced.

This took a lot of time, so he bought some tiny bells and attached them to his roosters.

Each bell had a different tone, so he could tell from a distance, which rooster was performing.

Now, he could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report by just listening to the bells.

John’s favorite rooster, old Butch, was a very fine specimen, but this morning he noticed old Butch’s bell hadn’t rung at all!

When he went to investigate, he saw the other roosters were busy chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing, but the pullets, hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover.

To John’s amazement, old Butch had his bell in his beak, so it couldn’t ring.

He’d sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on to the next one.

John was so proud of old Butch, he entered him in the Renfrew County Fair and he became an overnight sensation among the judges.

The result was the judges not only awarded old Butch the “No Bell Piece Prize,” but they also awarded him the “Pulletsurprise” as well.

Clearly old Butch was a politician in the making.

Who else but a politician could figure out how to win two of the most coveted awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the unsuspecting populace and screwing them when they weren’t paying attention.

Vote carefully this year, the bells are not always audible.

as for the pure lunacy of that fact by itself - that this administration is on our side - - the comment that riles me is that obama claims that he has lowered taxes!!

i can't speak for everyone - - but in my personal situation - my income has gone down by over $60k over the past two years. but the amount of federal tax i'm paying has increased all three years!

even my military retirement - which we did't even get a COLA raise on this year - managed to go down by $48.26 due to federal tax increase!!!!

somebody has to explain to me exactly how having MORE federal tax $$ taken from my paychecks is a result of lower taxes........

i just don't get it.....

ps - it's also worth noting that we're nearly a year and a half into this administration and they're still blaming their predecessor for anything and everything.....

did you know that there are military members who leave the active service - either under normal end-of-service, or due to injury or battle wounds, or even serve their complete time and retire - - and have no idea of all the benefits open to them as a veteran?!
the military and the DoD are working to get the word out about veterans benefits. every vet should know their rights - and where to go to learn more about them.

here's a great article, Many Vets Still Unaware of Benefits about some of the ways they're trying to spread info to these vets. the VA is getting into facebook and other social networking sites that they can use to inform vets about their rights.

The Benefits Delivery at Discharge (BDD) program was started modestly after the Persian Gulf War. Last year it helped 51,000 separating members get a comprehensive medical examination and apply for VA disability benefits before leaving service. The program is offered 60 to 180 days before discharge. Details are online at: Benefits Delivery at Discharge (BDD).

If you know a vet, have a family member who's a vet - - do them a favor, send them the links - - even if they think they know all about their rights ask 'em to to a look anyway.

trying to catch up a bit! been a bit of a hellish week around here! i've gotten a bit of a promotion at work - - big, new contract, new hires, job fairs, requirements meetings, putting together teams, organizing - - sheesh.....hopefully by next friday it will all come together a bit better....but it's a nice opportunity and i'm pretty happy about being able to work it...i've only been with these guys since this past july - - but it's always nice to hear someone say your work's appreciated and how'd you like to take on xxxxxx?

i was pretty happy with the election results around here....extremely happy to see kay bailey hutchison lose her gubernatorial bid (talk about your RINO! she's the definition of...)....

not so happy to see conaway win again - - he's a west texas staple - - lots of money, doesn't really campaign hard or much - but wins time after time....there's a young guy went after him this time managed to pull a decent share of the votes...maybe next time...

we have to put a stop to career politicians! i'm a strong supporter of term limits! two and yer out in my opinion. the struggle is that most of these folks today simply don't know how to do anything else - - whereas in the old days politicians would end their terms and go back to their farms, or businesses or whatever - - today it seems to be a life-style choice and once you're in -- you're there for life..

i don't believe it should be that way. it makes me happy every day when i read about these clown's retiring, resigning, or whining about a competitor who is actually going to beat them!

i'm looking forward to watching the senior folks in congress all being sent to pasture here soon....especially mccain, reid, pelosi.......

you can click on the title to go to one of the many news articles surrounding these folks and their escapades in haiti. this one in particular happens to be from fox news, but there are others - everywhere.

they all pretty much say the same thing. here in this country, they're being portrayed as innocent, do-gooders who were trying to help and made a mistake.

in haiti meanwhile, they're portrayed as child-nappers - who decided on their own to pretty much literally take these kids from the children home and take them across the border into the dominican republic most likely to be whisked away to america...

where - i'm sure - there are many people standing by to adopxxxxxx take them in and give them care.

pretty much nowhere have i read that these kids are orphaned due to the earthquake - in fact, i've read that some of them actually have parents - alive and there in haiti!

i'm thinking there's a lot more to this story than what we're being told in the news. i think these folks have stepped in it big-time and should be very glad that the haitian legal system is pretty much in shambles at the moment.

if they're lucky, they'll be shipped back here for legal proceedings.

either way, i'll be watching - cuz i think there's a lot more to this one....

scott roeder is the guy who walked into the Lutheran church and shot Dr Tiller - point blank range.

his reasons revolved around his beliefs about abortion and the abortions that were performed by Dr Tiller.

"It isn't our duty to take life, it's our heavenly father's."

that line is a quote from roeder during the trial. a guy who walked up to someone and point-blank takes their life - - declares in court that only our heavenly father has the duty to take a life....

anyone else see the conflict here besides me? regardless of his beliefs on abortion he is now no better than that doctor. he put himself in the role of the heavenly father and took another life.....

new grand baby!!

the last few days been rather hectic around here! we went up to arlington over the weekend - dual purpose trip - we hadn't seen the grandkids since Christmas AND i had to drop my wife off at the DFW airport so she could get down to florida to be with our other daughter as they were expecting the arrival of their first baby!

so on monday, jan 18, Parabelle Suellen was born....

so grandma is down there in Florida with the kids and the new baby and i'm up with the dog - doing my usual 6-3 daily work stuff.....

dunno how long she'll be down there. the baby was born via C section, and although our daughter is doing well - she's up and around a bit - i'm sure grandma's help is pretty welcome!

i'd like to take a minute to introduce ya to a couple of sites that i've run across. actually, run across isn't quite the right words - i was actually intro'd to the original PolitiFact St Petersberg FL site a while back by a far left-wing friend of mine who was extraordinarily happy to let me know that the site had declared sarah palin's death panel phrase as the "Lie of the Year for 2009". Of course, most of us understand the context in which ms palin used the phrase and what she was attempting to underscore by it's use - - then there are the palin-haters who don't have a clue...except that they hate the lady....

anyway - i stray - - the original PolitiFact St Petersberg FL site is a good one and well worth adding to your list of news sites to check out.

today i noticed that they are adding a PolitiFact TEXAS site to the PolitiFact family. which is a good thing - -because texas has a pretty hot governor's race shaping up at the moment. even discounting kay baily hutchison who doesn't have even a slim chance of becoming governor - it still projects to be an interesting race between the other candidates - current gov rick perry, farouk shami, bill white, barbara ann radnofsky, debra medina - - there's lots of gubernatorial candidates! (continuing to ignore kay bailey hutchison.....she's a senator - she should be in washington continuing to do what she's done for the last 9 years......it's retirement time ms hutchison - rock, rock - sit in the chair, fade away)....

anyway - i stray again - - please check out the PolitiFact Texas site also - full of good stuff......

the state of massachusetts is holding a special election on the 19th of January to fill the senate seat left when ted kennedy passed on.

Common Cents has done a great post outlining the candidates and hoping that the republican candidate, scott brown can win this seat. if he can, it will be a 41 seats for the gop - which can go a lone way in the health insurance battle!

yes finally - i'm going to sit here and make a post! of course i have lots and lots of excuses why i haven't been posting......

1. the political climate tends to enrage me. i can't stand this administration and the garbage they're producing. so i tend to ignore it. (yeah yeah i know - head in the sand stuff - oh welll).....

2. congress is just as bad - i totally support and encourage the "VOTE 'EM OUT!" movement. if you're an incumbent, you're outta there! don't even bother campaigning - you ain't gonna get my vote and if i can help it, many other votes too!

3. family stuff - - sheesh, i've got one daughter with a broken arm here in tx; and another daughter in fl who's eight months pregnant with her first baby! my folks up in ohio are having health issues - - - lol it just keeps on going! and, of course, when the new grandbaby is born, grandma is heading to fl for however long to help them out - she already spent a couple weeks helping the tx daughter out while she got through the worst of the broken arm (it's still healing!)....

4. i'm starting to think my other eye is blurring up! i had cataract surgery on my left eye last year....it appears the right eye may now be next.....

then there's the little things - like the truck is 2,000 miles past due for an oil change, the furnace filter shudda been changed last month, i need to order/buy chlorine tablets for the pool and i need to do some caulking on the windows...

so 2009 is going to end on a eh-so-so basis!

but with lots of hope for good things to come in 2010! everyone's health will get better, our new granddaughter!!! those two alone will make me happy!

here's to your 2010 - - - may it be filled with happy times and enjoyment of life!

I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.
2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.
3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.
4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.
5. How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?
6. Was learning cursive really necessary?
7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on #5. I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.
8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died. 9. I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.
10. Bad decisions make good stories.
11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day. (like now!)
12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection...again.
13. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page research paper that I swear I did not make any changes to. This one scares me all the time................!!
14. "Do not machine wash or tumble dry" means I will never wash this -- ever.
15. I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello? Damn it!), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voicemail. What did you do after I didn't answer? Drop the phone and run away?
16. I hate leaving my house confident and looking good and then not seeing anyone of importance the entire day. What a waste.
17. I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.
18. My 4-year old grandson asked me in the car the other day "Grandpa, what would happen if you ran over a ninja?" How the hell do I respond to that?
19. I think the freezer deserves a light as well.
20. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lites than Kay.

family news!

big happenings in my family! this weekend my parents are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary!

i'm flying up on friday - and all my other brothers and sisters will be arriving. Click the link in the title to see the local newspaper announcement for their anniversary.

mom and dad were married on november 6, 1949 in the same church they still attend! in fact, it's the same church that all us kids grew up in, took confirmation classes (lutheran), and generally had more fun in that you could possibly imagine! among the six of us kids, there are lots and lots of memories tied to that church and the folks there.

60 years sure seems like a long time to me - - and to spend it all (plus growing up and high school) together has got to be special! i think most every decision i've ever made has been made with "what would mom and dad do" in my mind....

i'm sure they had their arguments, fights, growing pains, whatever you want to call it - - but, for me - the important lesson is that marriage takes lots and lots of work and lots and lots of effort from both parties. it's never easy - but the togetherness and friendship and love are rewards in and of themselves - - and i'm sure us six kids gave them plenty of pauses for concern! lol

i love my folks dearly - - wish them all the best and really look forward to spending the weekend with the family. it should be a great time!

i probably won't have computer access while i'm up that way.....i'll get some pics while i'm home and have a post early next week - let ya know how the party goes......

ok here's a ponder for ya - - - i'm getting wore out on politics......frankly, losing interest rapidly.......stupidity tends to distract me and there's a lot of that around on both sides of the aisle....so i choose not to participate.......

anyway......what kind of net surfer are you? have you ever watched someone as they surf around this giant webbed conglomeration we call the internet?

when you surf to a website, do you start at the top and read to the bottom? or just immediately scan to what you want to know?    do you scroll back to the top before leaving that page? or are you a surfer who just doesn't pay attention to such things - - go to a page, find out what you want and boom - you're gone!

personally, since i've been thinking about how folks surf, i'm one of those who will always return to the top of the page (site) before i'll leave....

even when i'm entering this post, i find that i will return to the top of the post before i click the publish post button - - - even though i fully know the computer (and the website) don't really know the difference!

let's say you haven't visited a blog for a few days....when you go there do you start reading at the top and read down to where you last visited/read?   or do you scroll down and pick up where you last read and then read to the top?   i scroll down and read to the top - on some blogs it matters if you read the posts in the order they were posted....

same thing with my favorite comics.....i have my favorite comics on my home page (i use igoogle) and if i miss a day or so i always backtrack and read up to the current one...

do you get impatient when you're looking over someone's shoulder who's surfing the net? wanna just grab the mouse and say, "let me drive - you're making me crazy!"     lol

clicking links on a website is another thing- - i always finish reading a site before i click on a link that takes me away from that page (or site). mostly because i know i'll end up somewhere totally unrelated to where i started at because i see a link that catches my eye and next thing you know it's an hour later and i'm light years from where i started....

so i always read the site i start the visit to.....lord knows i'll a devil's time getting back there so i need to read whatever it was that put me there now....

how many times have you seen that video making the rounds in email about the guy in the transformer costume at the car dealer? it IS neat, but i get the darn thing nearly daily! if you having seen it, let me know, i can happily email it to ya......

i guess it's got a lot to do with "our routines" - - do you have a daily routine? things you seem to do everyday? does it irk you when you get disrupted from that routine, or miss part of it?

used to be when the kids were around, we didn't have routines - - the "routine" was whatever the kids got into at that particular moment! routines are pipe dreams when you have kids! not that that is a bad thing - - it's just the way it is when you have kids, it's hard to get into any kind of habit or routine - - just part of parenting....spontaneity is way it is!

but now that the kids have been gone for so long, mom and i tend to be right settled into our own "routines" - - lol sometimes we get in each other's ways!!! it's the reason we each have our own laptops - i can't find my way around hers and i'm sure she can't find her way around mine...

life is a grand thing isn't it? sometimes the littlest things are the best and make us all unique unto ourselves...

we should all sit back and enjoy.........

So I heard this on a CNN radio news broadcast this morning….

Story is about illegal female Latino immigrants working in this country….They (CNN reporters) were interviewing a couple of Latino women who were among a large group of illegals that were busted for working with false documents – in this case, they had purchased fake SSNs.

I wrote this down – so I could remember just what the woman said….it’s incredulous….and her use of English wasn’t bad – she spoke clearly.

“I am working here – earning a living. There’s nothing illegal about that.”

But there is! First, Lord knows how you got into the country in the first place – we won’t go there, since the news story didn’t either.

But beyond that, you at no time went down to the government offices and registered as an immigrant and applied for a work permit or anything.

And beyond that even – you went so far as to purchase a false SSN and the proceed to use that false documentation in order to gain employment!

Which part of this is difficult? And why is it difficult? And why does the media think I should feel badly for this woman (or this group of people)??

Of course, CNN (being what it is) played up the story to create a good deal of sympathy for this woman – describing the plight of the Latino woman in this country. It was amazing how in a 3-4 minute piece they could almost make you feel bad for the poor woman and wonder how we can fix the legislation to help her out…give her the job back and somehow make it right for her………….

Bull-hockey!!!! She’s an illegal alien, came here via unknown (but suspicious) means, purchased illegal work documents, obtained a job fraudulently, and I’m sure it could go on…..

She should be deported. Period. Gone. Oh, I’m sure we could provide her with information on how to apply for a visa or work permit and get back into this country the legal way…..but in the end – she’s outta here……

and as a side note - because i don't really know - - what happens to FICA (SS) monies that are taken from someone's pay and marked against a forged SSN? How does that work within the SSA i wonder? should they somehow be aware that a SSN is forged or fraudalent?

being a government run & operated group, i probably know the answer to that question without having to ask it...9 digits is 9 digits to them....probably don't know or care if it's real or forged......

we was in vegas for a long weekend!

our best friends from kansas city met us out there and we had a ball for four days!

didn't have any email/internet or anything - - so i'm way behind on blogs, email, news, most anything.....

so i'll catch up for a day or so and then get a post together....

one of my all time favorite professional wrestlers passed away today.

captain lou albano was one of the best, most hated wrestlers and then managers in the WWE/WWF. the trademark rubberband in his beard - hair askew - that wild look in his eyes....

the man was a classic....

even as he worked with cindi lauper, and then as the voice of mario in the mario brother toons......

the guy was a class act. rip captain........
